STUDY IN THE UNITED STATES This message goes to all my friends on FB and others that have queried concerning their interest to study in the United States. I have already told some of you but those others that I haven’t yet told , Please read careful and adhere accordingly. The study opportunity in the US unlimited, especially Universities and Colleges, unlike most countries. You can apply today and get accepted tomorrow so long as you have completed high school ( which is secondary/ National High School level in PNG). Because of the huge number of Colleges and Universities in the United states, the competition for enrollment is undeniably overwhelming between rival institutions. Thus, Most of the universities and colleges don’t have very competitive admission requirement except prestigious institutions like Preston, Harvard etc. The minimal entry requirements for admission for international students are 1. Must have successfully completed a grade 12 equivalent with C grades. 2. three References. 3. School Fee. My friends attending Pensacola Christian College in Florida told me that PCC is the easiest to get admitted. You can get a copy of the application on PCC website: pcci.edu/. You can apply online or can obtain an electronic copy of the application form from any university or college of your interested. For most colleges and universities, rejection rate is very rare if you meet the minimum requirements. The PROBLEM with many international students ( including PNG) is F-I-N-A-N-C-E. If you have the financial capacity to complete your program of study, you shouldn’t have any problem other than working on your student visa which is obtainable once you are admitted to the school and you have received what is called an I-20 document from the school. One Big question is about Job opportunities. CAN I GET A JOB IN THE US WHILE STUDY? The answer to the question is NO. Yes, You cannot get a job in the US with your student visa. Some 8-10 years back, international students were at least able to get jobs especially in their host schools but unfortunately, this opportunity is unfortunately is non-existent. This is the very reason why many PNG students have not completed their education and have returned home or still struggling. Getting a Job in the US is more complicated than you think. The recent economic crises coupled with immigration policy restructure by the Homeland Security Department in the US have quash any changes and privileges of job opportunities for any foreign students. You may find on the website and catalog of some colleges and universities that job is guaranteed upon admission but that only applies to US citizens. If you are under some special arrangements and scholarships, there is a reservation, otherwise self sponsor students will have to prepared meet all financial obligation tailored towards the study. HOW MUCH DO I PAY FOR A SEMESTER? While study in the US is a lifetime and rewarding experience, it comes with a price. Apart from the Airfare and other mandatory expenses ( medical test, visa, immigrations etc), the minimum ( depending on schools) is at an estimated average of $6000 ( text books not included) for a semester. Summer break is mostly 4 months so that means you have to find a rental accommodation for the duration of your summer break. Some of you also asked about how much it can cost for Aviation schools for Pilot training. The estimated average is $50, 000-$60, 000 to complete training and testing. I have given all the figures in dollars because exchange rates fluctuates regularly so make your own calculation. So this is to make sure that you have the factual information lest you be misled by any speculation and untrue information from sources that have ulterior motive. If you have any question on things I have mentioned, send me any email with your questions on shppngmangi@gmail. God bless PNG.
