SUCCESS STORY! Jayla came to Domus Academy in New Haven as a 7th grader. Energetic and playful, she had a significant history of mental health struggles, including a mood disorder and ADHD. That year, she was hospitalized four times for psychiatric reasons, which was incredibly stressful on her and her family. With a wide range of intensive mental health and behavioral interventions provided by Jayla’s family advocate and several outside resources, she matured substantially during her 8th grade year. She no longer suffered psychiatric episodes and began to make friends. She took an interest in drawing and proved to be a skillful artist. Her art teacher provided Jayla with a portfolio she proudly carried everywhere; she drew constantly and became very talented. Jayla earned honor roll status in her 8th grade year and was eventually admitted to desirable local high school, where, as a 10th grader, she continues to succeed academically and develop her drawing skills. CONGRATS to this hard-working young person and the staff members who never gave up on her!
