Webster defines the word refuge as a shelter or protection from danger or distress, a place that provides shelter or protection, something to which one has recourse in times of difficulty. What David was saying was, Help Lord I need A Vacation. However David would soon found out that this place of refuge in the cave would not be his place to take a vacation or to find relief. He would soon find out that it was The Lord who wanted to be Davids refuge in this time of distress and discouragement.
