SUGARS : COMPLEX AND SIMPLE Basically , sugars are of two types - the complex sugars and the simple sugars. Nutritionally, it matters which ones you consume. Complex sugars are found in blueberry, banana and raisins etc. And they are beneficial because the body has to break them down before utilising them. This consumes time as well as calories. Because of this, they give more sustained energy release and increase no weight if consumed in moderation. Simple sugars like refined sugar has smaller molecules, requiring no breakdown. The body burns no calories to get energy out of simple sugar and after a spike of fresh energy , you again feel tired and hungry. All this adds up to the weight and you get fatter later on. So, if wish to garnish your bland cereal breakfast with some sweetness , go for some toppings of banana, blueberries or raisins. Avoid that spoon of sugar, you are going to regret months later with bulging tyres on your lower abdomen.
