SULTAN, AWUJALE, AREGBESOLA, AMOSUN URGE NIGERIANS TO BE UNITED AGAINST INSURGENCY The Sultan of Sokoto and president general, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, and his Ogun counterpart, Ibikunle Amosun, have prayed to God to expose the sponsors of Boko Haram. Speaking at the opening of the biggest mosque in the South West, the New Aiyepe Central Mosque at Ijebu-Aiyepe in Ogun State on Sunday, Sultan Abubakar said Nigerians have a long history of peaceful co-existence irrespective of tribe and religion. He wondered why the Boko Haram members are trying to create chaos among Muslims and Christians in the country in the name of religion. Islam, Sultan Abubakar said, is a religion of peace and not violence. “It is important to respect another person’s religion; you do not decide who is right or wrong. That should be left for Allah,” he said. Oba Adetona who chaired the event lamented the incessant killings by the insurgents. He prayed Allah to bring an end to their evil acts and guide the insurgents to the right path. Aregbesola urged Nigerians to continue to be united and not give in to those who want to destroy the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed for many years. He stressed the need for tolerance among various faith in the country, saying it is only in the atmosphere of peace that meaningful developments could thrives. Amosun said the gathering which had non-Muslims in attendance had again demonstrated peaceful co-existence among different faiths. He warned the insurgents to stop the killings or face the wrath of Allah. Earlier in his welcome address, Aiyepe Muslim Community chairman, Alhaji Musibau Oyefeso, condemned the Nyanya bombing and abduction of school girls. The action, Oyefeso said, is a testimony to the pervasiveness of the course of the perpetrators. “The phenomena cannot be said to have any kind of semblance to the teachings of Islam. We make bold to say that islam is a religion of peace with every aspect of its teachings guiding towards respect for life and peaceful co-existence between peoples of various races, tribes and religion,” he said.
