SUMMARY OF SUNDAY SERMON OF 28TH JULY 2013. TITLE: WALKING IN HUMILITY. PHILIPPIANS 2: 1-5. ‘ Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls’. Luke 11:29. ‘ But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant’. Matthew 23:11. ‘ And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted’. Matthew 23:12. The kingdom of Heaven smiles on humility. The more humble you walk on earth, the greater you become in heaven. Humility simply put, is lowliness, modesty, gentleness, respect, willingness to be led. It is the opposite of pride or arrogance and boastfulness. Pride is simply thinking you are better than others. In the book of Proverbs, pride is defined as a mocker. To mock someone or a group of people. John 3;16 ‘ For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life’. Jesus, during His life on the earth, Humbled Himself. He touched the untouchable, forgave the undeserving, took notice of the poor and gave strength to the weak. Although He was a man of much power and authority, he did not use it to his own advantage. For Jesus to come as a ‘self-proclaimed’ king would have been in direct contrast to the atmosphere of Heaven. Although he had every right because he surely was a king, he presented Himself as the very opposite, a simple servant. Jesus motives were never ignited by popularity or money. These meant nothing to him. Jesus humbled Himself and did the work of His Father. Through the life Jesus lived on earth, we can learn that true humility never boasts about who they are. Humility leads to obedience. As Children of the most high God, we must walk in obedience to the commandments of God for the rain of His blessings to fall on us. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others. Philippians 2:3-4.Humility leads to repentance. Pride is not from God. Is from the devil. The Bible makes us to understand, that God hates pride. ‘Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus’. Philippians 2:5. God hates people who try to take His place. The Bible says we should imitate God. Jesus Christ told His mother, ‘Woman, my time has not come’, during a feast when the wine provided ran out, but yet he humbled Himself and performed the miracle and provided wine for all guest. Humility breaks protocol. It promotes you to a place you ought not to be. Pride reduces and brings you down. Being humble doesn’t make you weak, because you know who you are and the God you have. ‘God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble’. 1 Peter 5:5-6. Humility is the key to greatness. Wives submit to your husbands. Husbands love your wives, (Be Humble) and in return you get love. 1 Peter 3:1-7. Humility is full of the Spirit. The spirit of Satan brings out pride . But the fruit of the spirit brings out the humility in you. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5: 22-25. Renew your mind. Everything you do, do it for the Lord. Have the mind that you are always in God’s presence. Today is the tomorrow you talked about yesterday. Avoid that circumstance where there is no second chance. Do what is right now. Humble yourself before men and God. God will give you the grace, but you need to run the race. May the Lord bless you. Message by Deacon Alex Asomani.
