SUNDAY CORNER: Our God we cannot thank You enough for your grace and mercies upon us. As mortals we fall short of your glory in all ramifications but we are confident that when we approach you in repentance you listen to us. Thank You father for our people, Nigerians that despite all challenges we are still one nation and one people. May peace and harmony reign supreme amongst our people amen. Two months ago Nigeria recorded its first incidence of Ebola outbreak. It was reported that a Liberian diplomat already on the watch list insisted and was allowed to travelled to Nigeria to attend a conference. It was not clear whether his health status as an Ebola watch list suspect was made available to Nigerian authorities. However he imported the virus into our country and since then things have not been the same. Of course, Partick Sawyer died but that was not all. Another Liberian diplomat again in similar circumstances sneak to Porthacourt and was given secret medical attention in a hospital. Sadly he survived but the doctor and his wife also a physician responsible for this cover up did not survive it. Just some weeks ago, custom officials were reported to have arrested a truck containing bush meat alleged to me smoked meat of monkeys which are vectors of the dreaded Ebola virus. This great effort stultified an attempt to attack Nigeria from the North with the disease from the same Liberian axis. I have analysed these unfortunate development and may be wrong to conclude that there is conspiracy by Liberia to domesticate the disease in Nigeria by callously exporting it Nigeria. Otherwise how can you explain the movement of their officials on watch list into Nigeria without informing our government. To me there is more than meeting the eyes in the whole scenario. Since the outbreak of this disease things have that been the same. There was even a social media panick which went round as result salt became an essential commodity. The wicked alarm of bathing and drinking salt as Ebola therapy was observed more than even religious obligations. From 2 am till down it was bathing with salt all over Nigeria, many lost their lives as results. And guess the origin of this rumour, two female students were said to be playing pranks on themselves which turned out to be a national calamity. May God forgive these prank players and grant their victims eternal harmony amen. Since Ebola was reported in Nigeria, our governments at all levels have done very well. The efforts of both federal and state governments in the affected places have been commendable. This is one thing that the government is doing well to contend with the situation. The level of mobilisation and rapid response by the government has reduced the spread and risk profile and I am commending it. That is how government should respond to all social and economic challenges so that our society can make progress. Thank you and happy Sunday.
