SUNDAY, December 7 Advent 2 Mark 1:2-3. “See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way, the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’” The Messiah comes! Echoing the words of the prophet Isaiah, it begins with a voice crying in the wilderness to prepare the way of the Lord. It doesn’t begin at a royal court or a great treasury. It isn’t accompanied by a mighty army or celebrated by a gathering of the rich and famous. The coming Lord was proclaimed by John the Baptist, who stood apart from the society of his day. His way of life and message were distinctive. He wore rough clothes and ate locusts and wild honey. John announced the coming Messiah who would baptize with the Holy Spirit.
