SUNDAY NIGHT LIVE, UK I have just spent two days with my friend Johnny Kinch in Enfield, England of North London. It is always great to spend time with men who understand God does not have a plan B. In 5 years over 300,00 people to come to meetings in coffee houses across the UK. This is what happens when we choose to follow our God Given Passions. RECENT TESTIMONY I changed forever in a coffee shop’Costa Coffee is the last place you might expect to discover faith in Jesus, but Steve Young didAn engineer has revealed how he found God – in a coffee shop. Father- of-two Steve Young went along to his local Costa Coffee branch with his wife, Karen, expect- ing an evening of music and light entertainment at church-run event, Sunday Night Live. But the 53-year-old got morethan he bargained for when he hadan encounter with God which changed his life. He says, “Life has taken on a whole new purpose and direction, and despite huge angst and regrets for how shallow and stubborn I had been throughout my life, I try every day to be a better person and with God as my guide, I know I’m in good hands.”Steve recalled the January night when he realised God was real.“Deep down I could feel this immense feeling of joy welling up inside, some- thing huge and overwhelming. The lights behind the counter seemed to be getting brighter, clearer and razor sharp. I felt like I would cry with joy. I thought perhapsI had had one too many lattes – maybe those extra shots of caffeine were giving my body something to complain about.“Through this immense, overwhelming happiness, I was convinced that I just had to put my trust in God. Following God wasSteve Young heard the gospel message during a Sunday Night Live music event in a Costa Coffee shopthe way – the only way. I was weak, and he was strong.”Steve’s journey to faith began when Karen went along to an Alpha Course run at Portsmouth Christian Fellowship (PCF) and she heard about Sunday Night Live, an evening that hosts live music with a Christian twist in coffee shops. He adds, “Karen invited me along with the subtle pre-condition that I couldtake a newspaper with me to read if they started talking about religion. This, tome, was like being offered an after-hours lock-in down the pub, the chance of drinking coffee, listening to live music and all of it after hours. It was a no-brainer, soI agreed.”The singer that evening was BrynHowarth, who’d toured the world with rock stars Led Zepplin and the GratefulDead. His story caught Steve’s attention. “I’ve always loved live music and here was a guy with this interesting story and most of all he was normal,” he says. “I’d always thought Christians were boring but this guy had really lived the life but yet in the midst of that chaotic lifestyle he’d found Jesus. I remember him saying, ‘I don’t know how people get by without Jesus.’“During the break I grabbed another latte, settling down again to enjoy the second half, but as Bryn began to sing, strange things started to happen. I just knew that God was real.“That blustery January evening was a huge and pivotal turning point in my life, which led to me partaking in an Alpha Course, hosted by the good folk at PCF, and regular attendance at their Sunday services too.”iBelieve 13
