SUNDAY SCHOOL TODAY Study 13 (Children & Teenagers only) TOPIC: STEADFASTNESS IN THE LORD PAYS TEXT: Daniel 1:8-21 INTRODUCTION Steadfastness in the Lord involves self denial, self control, trust, confidence and dependence on God. Steadfastness is holding fast, standing firm and giving oneself fully to the wish of the Lord. Its conducting oneself in a manner worth of the gospel of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Examples of these can be found in the following passages: Acts4:19, 20:24; Job 23:11; 2Kgs 22:2. In our main text, Daniel resolutely remained steadfast to God. He had the opportunity of eating from the royal table in Babylon, but he resolved to loose the advantage in order to stand firm win the Lord. He would not defile himself with the royal food and wine. The defilement Daniel ran away from was not necessarily a ritual defilement but a moral one. Daniel wanted to have a clear conscience and remain loyal to God. What was the result? 1. Daniel and his friends looked healthier and better nourished than those who ate the royal food. 2. God gave them knowledge and understanding of visions, dreams etc (vs 17) 3. Their steadfastness and righteousness also put them in the position of authority (vs 46, 48-49). So righteousness too can give one wealth. 4. The steadfastness of Daniel and his friends finally brought honour to God (vs 46-47). So your steadfastness can also evangelise and bring souls to the Lord.
