SUNDAYS HEADLINES: - VIC MAN DIES ON SUNSHINE COAST IN IRONMAN EVENT... A 39-year-old Victorian man has died competing in the Ironman 70.3 event at Mooloolaba, on the Sunshine Coast this morning. The man was pulled unconscious from the water during the swimming leg of the race after suffering a suspected heart attack. According to the Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast’s website, the ocean swim is a 1.9km one-lap course. Ironman Asia Pacific CEO Geoff Meyer confirmed a man had died while competing in the swim leg of the event. “He was treated at the scene by water safety officers and qualified medical staff,” the statement said. Mr Meyer said “it was a tragic circumstance for all involved, with efforts now concentrated on supporting the family in this difficult time, as well as event personnel who were involved.” - ISIL RELEASES BEHEADING FOOTAGE... A new video from the Islamic State militant group shows a masked militant beheading a captured British aid worker. The British Foreign Office said the video, showing the murder of 44-year-old David Haines, appeared to be genuine. It follows two previous videos showing the murder of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff. Mr Haines, a father of two originally from Perth in Scotland, was kidnapped last year while working for the French agency ACTED in Syria. UK Prime Minister David Cameron said David has been murdered in the most callous and brutal way imaginable by an organisation which is the embodiment of evil. We will hunt down those responsible and bring them to justice, no matter how long it takes, Mr Cameron said. His selflessness, his decency, his burning desire to help others has today cost him his life. But the whole country, like his grieving family, can be incredibly proud of what he did and what he stood for in his humanitarian mission. Mr Cameron said we cannot just walk on by if we are to keep this country safe. We have to confront this menace, he said, confirming the British Government will work closely with allies in order to defeat ISIL through a comprehensive and sustained counter-terrorism strategy. Mr Cameron said his government will work with the Iraqi Government, support the Kurdish regional government, help protect their own people, work at the UN to support the bearing down on ISIL and support the direct military action announced by the US. - GREG NORMAN NEARLY LOSES LEFT HAND... Former Australian golfer Greg Norman is lucky to still have a left hand after a chainsaw accident in the US. The 59-year-old posted a photo to Instagram of himself lying in a US hospital bed with his left arm heavily bandaged. Working with a chainsaw ALWAYS be respectful of the unexpected. I was one lucky man today. Damaged, but not down & out. Still have left hand, he wrote. Norman won two British Opens and reigned as world number one for 331 weeks in the 1980s and 1990s. - PORT MELBOURNE EARLY MORNING FIRE... A vacant gym in Port Melbourne has been destroyed by a suspected suspicious blaze this morning. Fire crews arrived around 2am to find the building on Waterfront Place fully engulfed. Around 70 firefighters worked for two hours to control the blaze, with one officer receiving minor injuries.
