SUNDERBANS OIL SPILL The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation on - TopicsExpress

SUNDERBANS OIL SPILL The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation on Monday evening suspended an order to replace the older version of oil tankers with the double hull-double bottom ones, officials said. In the wake of an indefinite strike which began from midnight last Sunday, the authorities took the decision at a meeting with the leaders of the Bangladesh Water Transport Workers’ Federation, they said. The workers’ organisation called the strike demanding withdrawal of the BPC’s order issued on January 13, 2015 asking the oil marketing companies—Padma, Meghna and Jamuna—not to use some 150 old tankers for oil transportation, the organisation’s joint general secretary Khorshed Alam told New Age.
