SUPER SUMIE AND THE HOUSE GECKO Shortly after our dog Tono - TopicsExpress

SUPER SUMIE AND THE HOUSE GECKO Shortly after our dog Tono passed on, this little guy, a House Gecko or Hemidactylus frenatus showed up and has been with us ever since. Locally (western Gifu Prefecture and eastern Aichi Prefecture) these little guys are regarded as house guardians; indeed, in many places in Japan they are referred to as a house gecko and are given special reverence and treatment as either a small kami or agent of some kami; or, the embodiment of some friend or relative who recently passed on, and who has come to watch over a family and their home - a belief with its roots in the blending of Shinto and Buddhism which the Meiji and then Taisho governments tried so hard to do away with - unsuccessfully! Be that as it may, our fat, furry, flying, feline superhero-in-training, loves to watch our little friend and one day decided that she would try to imitate the geckos ability for walking on walls and across windows - anything to impress or evoke some response from her mentor - Catman. Well, as you can see, like many things in life, it didnt quite work out the way she expected.
