Slightly chunky and with elbow callouses I see as badges of honor, Castro is still a very handsome guy and when he raises his eyes to meet mine they speak volumes. How much he must have to remember of his former life and owner. We dont know why Castro was surrendered to our care but I can tell you it wasnt in any way his fault, indeed he seems to have no faults. Though hes said to suffer from bad legs, we strolled about for a good half hour and the only issue he had was needing a little boost back into the kennel. He can climb up stairs and uses a cute 2-paws-at-a-time technique to get back down them. When we hit the street Castro went to the bathroom immediately and then focused on the very serious business of sniffing absolutely everything his nose encountered. Slow but steady sums up his approach to life and dogs just dont come more low-key or easy to handle than this guy. Castro loves treats and will take even the smallest very gently from my fingers and when he greets other dogs, big or small, its with the same gentle ease he brings to every social encounter. I can see Castro being a solid, comforting presence in his new familys life, almost like having a Zen master living in your home. All this sweet senior asks in return is a kind hand, a soft bed and some treats every now and then. I dont think thats too much to ask, do you? Please open your heart to Castro and offer him the dignified retirement he so richly deserves.
