SUPPORT MY TRIP TO jONGLEI: Peace reporting in Jonglei is an initiative of an independent freelance journalist Joseph Edward; it aims to combat the ongoing intercommunity conflict, cattle raiding, hostilities and revenge missions among the Lou Nuer, Dinka and Murle community in Jonglei which was believed to have claimed over five thousand (5000) lives of people in the last six years. The raiding that started in small scale has rapidly increased, as local communities owned guns in instead of using traditional tools (spear, bow and arrows). “Historical grievances continue to affect relations between communities and individuals and new tensions emerge from old wounds” UNMISS report. The situation has forced scores of civilians to flee their homes, as aid agencies relocate quit Jonglei. “I am deeply concerned about the humanitarian situation in Jonglei, where thousands of civilians are in need of assistance and protection, and where houses are burned down and civilian property destroyed, our capacity to provide emergency aid as well as regular medical care has diminished because of insecurity, gun shots have been fired at convoys carrying lifesaving supplies” (UNOCHA) report.
