SUPPORTING MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH IN TIMOR-LESTE No child should die in their mother’s arms. Timor-Leste has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world. Most women in rural areas cannot access adequate health services and support. Through its in-country partner, the Alola Foundation, Assisi provides training to community members to increase their skills to provide adequate information and support to pregnant women and new mothers. The SHIO (Self-Help Group) initiative aims to increase access to care and support through information sessions and attendance at government health clinics.
