SURPRISED BY GOD We see situations from our perspective, relate them to our own personal experiences and anticipate God’s answer or response according to our own limited understanding. Yet, Isaiah tells us in Isaiah 55:8-9 For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. So, if as Isaiah says, our thoughts don’t run in the same realm as God’s thoughts… and if, as Isaiah tells us our processes and way of life are not in the direction of God’s ways… then it would only be a reasonable understanding that we would be surprised by God at times in our life. And I have to admit that that is the very truth of the matter. But you know what? More often than not I am most pleasantly surprised by God’s ways and His processes. Great is His faithfulness!
