SUSPECT IN WIDOW MURDER CONFESSED Aizawl : December 26, 2014 (Friday) Mizoram police today claimed to have solved the murder of an 83-year-old widow in Aizawl on December 18, after a prime suspect confessed to committing the heinous crime. Aizawl superintendent of police C Laldina said, Rempuia, 36, a resident of Kulikawn locality in Aizawl, confessed before police in the presence of civilian witnesses at Aizawl police station at a few minutes past midnight on Christmas Eve. Rempuia was one of the few prime suspects who the police held for questioning in connection with the murder of former Mizoram finance minister J Lalsangzuala’s widow Zokhumi, who was found dead in her bed with her throat slit with a sharp object on December 18. The accused happens to be the grandson of the victim’s late husband J Lalsangzuala’s elder brother. Rempuia finally confessed after he was arrested by police for the second time in connection with the crime. “He was re-arrested after he had been released from police custody, as we discovered sufficient evidences against him,” a police official said. Rempuia has criminal records of murder as a juvenile, and had been in and out jail at least for three times. He had also allegedly desecrated a church in his neighbourhood some years ago. A video of him being exorcised by evangelists had also gone viral a few years back. He has been sent to Aizawl Central Jail immediately after his confession. The victim lived in her Mission Veng residence here with her grand-daughter after her husband and son passed away. (The North East Today)
