SV Antigua is aleady on her way out of Kongsfjord, entering - TopicsExpress

SV Antigua is aleady on her way out of Kongsfjord, entering Forlandsund, going south. There is some nice sailing wind, so I guess soon we can hoist the sails. Tomorrow we are already in Isfjord again, and then the trip will come to an end. So quickly. But again, it was really good. By the way, we have seen an amazing 24 polar bears (not including the dead one in Liefdefjord). The last one yesterday, in Krossfjord (believe it or not!). A nice observation, even if it was a bit rainy. But how often do you see a polar bear making a handstand? It was climbing down a steep rockwall. In Ny Alesund, there was this summer a flock of Barnacle goose chicks being raised by Biologists. Very cute to see them running after their human mother. I was alwas wondering a bit who would teach them to be a real wild goose. Now I know the answer: nobody. And so, they will be killed next Tuesday. In the name of science ... well, this is how it goes. The studies are finished, the samples are not needed anymore. As far as I got it, it was, at least amongst others, about the question if there is a day-and-night rhythm to the hormon system of the geese in midnight sun territory, as there is further south. Cheers, Rolf
