SV Singam wrote: Dear leaders of Malaysia, it looks like you are confused about a few critical things. Allow me to shed some light. First of all, you constitute the RULING PARTY by virtue of your first-past-the-post victory in the last General Election. I will not discuss the merits of your victory. We will simply accept that, de facto, you have won. Therefore you have, on behalf of the People of Malaysia, been given TEMPORARY RIGHT OF GOVERNANCE of our nation for the duration of your term of office. You do not constitute a permanent government nor do you own the government. You most certainly DO NOT own the instruments of government. Unfortunately, because you have been in office for more than 5 decades, you have become comfortable where you are. You have become so comfortable that you have forgotten that you represent the people and govern on our behalf. Instead of treating public opinion with respect, you have threatened and bullied and used unnecessary force to have your way. You have successfully silenced the press and, to some extent, cowed the public. As a result, you have forgotten how to be accountable. You even treat the reports of your own Accountant General with disdain. Now, because of this tragic incident, you have been forced to face your inability to be accountable. You have lied, you have dodged questions, you have pretended to know things you actually have no grasp of and, in the process, you have not only shown up your own ineptitude but also brought shame to the good people who work for you and who are trying their best to cope with a difficult situation. If you really are Looking East and emulating the nations you hold to be your heroes, you would resign and hand matters over to more capable people. But you have cultivated mediocracy for so long that you may be hard pressed to find capable people at the top. You may have to search lower down in the hierarchy to find the really capable people who have been bypassed for political reasons. This incident is nothing more than a timely warning to you. The world has seen you in your true colours and has found you to be dysfunctional, which is actually a very a kind description. Stronger words could have been used. Many of you claim to be Muslim. Others among you claim other faiths. All of you supposedly believe that there will be another accounting when you leave this world. When you face that accounting, you will fare much worse than what you are seeing now. All of your dishonesty and duplicity will be exposed. Take this incident as an early warning and learn to become accountable. We, the people of Malaysia, are more than willing to help you learn to become accountable. Listen to public opinion, respect the peoples wishes and understand that your governance is nothing more than a stewardship. Democracy means Demos Kratos. The people are the power. Govern on behalf of the people and you cant go wrong. We cannot agree more. nytimes/2014/03/13/world/asia/missing-jet-exposes-a-dysfunctional-malaysian-elite.html .
