SWF is working with local activists in Sierra Leone to train the women who usually cut girls during initiations to become caretakers for Ebola patients. This program is timely now when there is a national ban on public gatherings, and the women cutters, the Sowes, are unable to earn from their regular activities. 100 Sowes are willing to participate and use their social influence in educating people oh how to protect themselves from contacting Ebola. Working on refocusing their attention from preserving the traditional practice of FGM to preventing the spread of Ebola is a huge challenge.
