SYDNEY, 17/03/2014 - New claims have emerged on the ABC of the mistreatment of asylum-seekers, including alleged assault by the crew of a Customs ship, being kept in a dark room onboard for an extended period and then being thrown into the water before a forcible removal to Indonesia on an Australian lifeboat. Iranian man Arash Sedigh and his wife, Azi, last night told 7.30 they were among 36 asylum-seekers intercepted by authorities near Christmas Island in late January and then returned to Indonesia days later on one of the governments new hi-tech orange lifeboats. It was their second attempt to reach Australia, and the second time they had been sent back on a lifeboat.
