SYNOPSIS: Happy Thursday! Heres the weather synopsis... ASIA: High pressure provides beautiful weather for Japan and the Korean Peninsula. It will lead to more sunny skies heading into the weekend along with warmer temperatures, including Hokkaido and northern Japan. A stationary front has developed along the Yangzi River Basin, and that is leading to a developing low pressure system. It will head eastward and arrive close to northern Japan by the end of the weekend. Meanwhile, a tropical depression is providing heavy rainfall for Tacloban and Visayas. The rain will continue even after the system departs due to the rainy season front next week. OCEANIA: A stalled front continues to batter Queensland and Northern Territory, producing scattered showers and some storms. Expect the front to linger and keep clouds over the central portions of those regions through the rest of the week. Another disturbance is producing rain for the southwestern corner of Western Australia. This system should pass through by late Friday. Some showers are rolling through the southern tips of North Island and South Island of New Zealand, while the northern edges will continue to see sunny to partly cloudy skies. EUROPE: A low pressure system over the Iberian Peninsula is causing heavy rainfall to fall over southwestern Europe and northwestern Africa. Some areas may see up to 200 mm of rainfall through Saturday. Flash flooding will be a problem in these areas as a lot of moisture will be saturating the region. Strong winds will also be a part of the story. Meanwhile, the eastern side of the continent is under the influence of high pressure, leading to relatively dry conditions, but some minimal instability near the Balkans will provide some scattered showers. NORTH AMERICA: As the Thanksgiving holiday arrives for Americans, the northeast along with the upper mid-West are seeing more of a winter scenario as snow covers these regions. More snow is possible as a low over the Great Lakes produces precipitation for New England. Behind the system, expect chilly weather with some areas seeing highs in the single digits. A low over the US Pacific Northwest is providing snow for southwestern Canada and the Northern Rockies. Some of the high elevations may see 15-25 cm of snow with strong wind gusts. Hope you have a good day wherever you are!
