SYRIA, HOMS IN LAST FEW DAYS - THE ARMY ESTABLISHES FULL CONTROL ON AL-SHAER GAS FIELD IN HOMS COUNTRYSIDE AND RECAPTURED FEW MORE STRATEGIC FIELDS AND AREAS The Syrian army recaptured the Shaer gas field in central Homs Thursday, state television reported. Citing a military source, state television said the forces had recaptured the field and the surrounding area. The Syrian army had recaptured on Wednesday of two additional gas fields in the province as well a gas company. Parts of the Shaer gas field fell under the control of ISIL last week, after an assault by the terrorist organization. Syrian Arab News Agency also confirmed that the Army, in cooperation with popular defense groups, established full control on al-Shaer Gas field and the surrounding hills in Homs Eastern countryside, killing scores of ISIS terrorists and hunt their remnants in the region. Also, a day before, the army, in cooperation with popular defense groups, established control over Zamlet al- Muhr Mountain, Syriatel hill, al-Muher Oilfield, Jhar village, point 802, al-Rajmeh hill and in the surrounding of al-Shaer mountain in Palmyra in Homs countryside, killing and injuring scores of terrorists. Earlier, the army units advanced in Jabal al-Shaer area in Homs and pressed ahead with operations in many areas across the country, targeting terrorists’ hideouts and positions and leaving many of them killed. Army units advanced in Jabal al-Shaer area in the countryside of the central province of Homs, moving from the direction of Hayan gas field towards the north and west and on both sides of the road of Hajjar village. A number of terrorists’ hideouts and their vehicles were destroyed in al-Rastan, Oqeirbat, Jazel and its surroundings, and al-Mleh hill, Qarat al-Taheen, Un al-Tababir and in al-Ghanto in Homs countryside. SANA reporter quoted a military source as saying that more than 20 terrorists were killed in the operations and 3 cars equipped with heavy machine guns were destroyed. Army units, the source added, foiled terrorists’ attempt to attack the guard units of al-Rastan Dam and killed terrorists to the west of al-Azm building in the countryside, inflicting heavy losses upon the terrorists. A number of cars equipped with heavy machine guns which terrorists were driving towards al-Ameriyeh from Deir Foul were also destroyed. Army operations in al-Waer neighborhood and its surrounding farms in the city of Homs and in the areas of Kafer Laha in al-Houla, al-Rastan, in the villages of Khirbet al-Duweibi, al-Msheirfeh and al-Masoudiyeh resulted in the killing of many terrorists. Terrorists’ attempt to infiltrate from al-Duweibi towards Abu al-Alaya was foiled in the course of the operations. Syrian army troops backed by pro-government fighters have recaptured a strategic gas field in the central militancy-stricken province of Homs. Syrian state television, citing an unnamed military source, reported that Syrian forces retook control of Shaer gas field and its surrounding area on Thursday. Shaer gas field had fallen into the hands of Takfiri ISIL terrorists on October 30, when the terrorists launched an attack that killed dozens of pro-government forces and security guards. Earlier on Wednesday, the Syrian army regained control of the Jhar and Mahr gas fields, as well as the Hayyan gas company in the east of Homs Province. Soldiers of the Syrian army have recaptured two major gas fields and a gas company in the central province of Homs. The Syrian military forces backed by pro-government fighters “retook control of the Jhar and Mahr gas fields, as well as the Hayyan gas company in the east of Homs province,” said the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Wednesday. Jhar and Hayyan are particularly important because they feed Homs city and Damascus the gas supplies needed to produce electricity, said the observatory’s director, Rami Abdel Rahman. He added that the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad were conducting heavy airstrikes against the ISIL positions amid fierce fighting between the two sides. Late last week, the ISIL Takfiri militants took control of the facilities. The army forces were continuing their advance in an effort to also retake the nearby Shaer gas field, according to reports by the Syrian media, which also said many Takfiri terrorists were killed there. Meanwhile, the army said a militant attack on one of its posts near the city of Homs, located 162 kilometers (101 miles) north of Damascus, was repelled and several militants were killed in the battle. Following the latest developments across the country, on Thursday, Syrian government forces carried out an operation near the northeastern city of al-Hasakah, located approximately 650 kilometers (400 miles) northeast of the capital, Damascus, killing scores of ISIL members. Syrian army units also took control of the eastern part of the town of Sheikh Meskin in the southwestern Dara’a Province, and inflicted heavy losses on the militants there.
