SZABIST Media Sciences Department and Goethe Institute Karachi Present Mobile Phone Film Workshop January18-26, 2015 ‘Micro Moves: Human - Urban / Surviving Strategies in a Mega-City’ by Till Passow ‘Micro Moves: Human – Urban / Surviving Strategies in a Mega-City’ is a workshop, co-produced with the Goethe-Institute, Karachi and SZABIST Media Sciences Department. The aim of the workshop is to produce 5 - 10 high quality short films, using mobile phone cameras. The films must reflect the difficulties of urban survival and may reveal strategies of how to get along with these difficulties. They can be fictional, documentary, or experimental, as long as they impress by their pithy narration and reflect the overall theme of the workshop. The duration of each film will be 30 seconds - five minutes in length. About Mobile Filmmaking: In recent times mobile phone image-capturing techniques developed at such a rapid pace that mobile phone cameras could now be considered as one of the fastest growing techniques in film art. The HD technology used in most of the smart phone cameras allows presenting the films even on cinema screens. This opens up new perspectives for filmmakers, which are willing to experiment: The filmmaker/artist is with a mobile phone camera completely independent. He is a director, cinematographer and sound engineer in one person; he becomes a very flexible ‘One-Person-Film-Unit’. During the workshop the students will take part in a constant creative exchange and gain the technical “know-how” to make a complete short film using modern multi-media. Starting from the development of ideas and scripts, to the very end phase of presenting the final result to an audience. This will not only help make the young artists aware of their own work and teach them to be responsible for every detail of their film. It will also show the whole process of filmmaking from “idea to screen”; allowing them to experience the true principles of filmmaking: to work out a coherent story which fits the terms of admission and to search for the most suitable form to transport their brainchild to the silver screen. Eligibility: Workshop is open to students at SZABIST Media Sciences department and other universities in Karachi offering film/TV production major or diploma. Early career filmmakers can also apply. To apply send an email at mobilefilmworkshop@gmail with a CV and a link to your showreel or production work.
