Sabah borders no longer under threat MALACCA: Sabah’s borders are no longer under any threat, said army chief Jen Datuk Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor. He said a “reasonable number” of troops have been stationed to guard Sabah’s eastern borders under the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), but declined to elaborate. “The numbers are enough to protect and defend the area,” he told a press conference after visiting the Special Forces School in the Sungai Udang Army Camp here for the closing of the Defence Ministry’s media day. Jen Raja Mohamed Affandi also said that while the army was already in Sabah to support the Esscom, no decision had been made on whether to absorb the soldiers who were currently deployed to Sabah. He said an announcement on the status of Ops Daulat would be made on Satuday by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein in Lahad Datu. He added that the media was a valuable tool for disseminating information during times of conflict. “I am grateful for the media coverage from the ground during the Lahad Datu incident. “Without it, distorted news could have been spread,” said Jen Raja Mohamed Affandi, who took up the post two weeks ago. A total of 65 members of various print, broadcast and electronic media participated in the two-day event held at the Army Commando training centre.
