Sabbath Sermon ~ Baptism of the Holy Spirit.. Bible study with Revelation Pastor Jac Colon - John 3:5 ~ Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.… -So how can we know we received the Holy Spirit? Tongues is the most popular and emphasized given implication of receiving the Holy Spirit. There is a huge misunderstanding of Baptism of the Spirit! Luke in the book of Acts 1: 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth. to preach the LANGUAGE OF JESUS to all the world.. Ephesians 4: ~ 7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christs gift.… 8 Therefore it says, WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN. 10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.) 11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,… 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;… * * Christ gives the portion of the gifts ! some to be apostles, prophets, evangelists pastors and teachers The purpose of the gifts are to PREPARE Gods people , to build up the body of Christ - His church! The purpose of the baptism of the Spirit and receiving its gifts is to build up the body of Christ. The gifts of the Holy Spirit will be in the church till the end. Gifts of the Spirit ~ Tongues~ is there such a thing? Acts 2 :1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.… Liguar greek ~ equally languages at once... why did God allow them to speak in different languages at once,..that all there may bear witness to the power of Christ and baptism of His Holy Spirit ...to those who receive HIS GOSPEL - HIM.as Savior and Lord. Acts 2:5 ~ 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. 5 Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.… Every nation was present at the feast of Pentecost! Acts 2:6 ~ 6 And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language. A Miracle! 7 They were amazed and astonished, saying, Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?… 8 And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs-- we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God. Peter stood up and began preached the Word and the Gospel : 14 But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words. 16 but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel: 17 AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS, God says, THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS;… 18 EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy.… ......OF THE GOSPEL, THE BIRTH , LIFE , DEATH AND RESURRECTION, SALVATION AND SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST 33Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.… REPENT AND BE BAPTIZED EVERY ONE OF YOU ~ 38 Peter said to them, Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.… 40 And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation! 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. The disciples spoke in tongues- but we cant say if the three thousand did at the baptism of the Spirit. Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness. Baptism of the Holy Spirit again , speaking the the Word of God boldly - to BUILD UP THE BODY OF CHRIST AND RECEIVE THE POWER TO BRING SOULS TO SALVATION.~ To empower us to build up the church! THE FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT BUILD UP THE PERSON/SOUL. Peter had a hard time receiving gentiles in the church...God showed him the sheet with all animals like an analogy of what the Lord says is, and Christ was given for all not some! and what the Lord has given is to be given to all would would receive! God wanted to teach Peter a lesson , both Jews and gentiles ,unbelievers and not yet received the gospel but when they do receive the gospel God shall make them clean too! Holy too! not just a jew! Acts 10: ~ 39We are witnesses of all the things He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross. 40God raised Him up on the third day and granted that He become visible, 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, that is, to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.… Acts 10:46 ~ For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered, 47Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?… - 2 times God gives evidence of Tongues. Acts 19:2 ~ God using the baptism of the Holy Spirit as evident in speaking in tongues, because Ephesis was on two trade routes, thousands of people from all over passed through. 5 times in total of speaking in tongues for evidence of Baptism in the Holy Spirit... -Church at Corinth 1 Corinthians 3: 1 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able,… what kind of church was it? a rolemodel church - no. A worldly church! 1 Corin 11:17 But in giving this instruction, I do not praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse. 18 For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that divisions exist among you; and in part I believe it.… - your meetings do more harm than good! Corinth was a divided church - 1 Corinthians 14: 26 What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.... 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret;… Paul says theyre singing , praying, preaching all at once, competing to who can be the best perhaps or the best within earshot... Now is Paul describing a problem and prescribing a solution- Paul is describing a solution 1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware. Dont be! 12:4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord.… 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. - Dont be ignorant because the gifts of the Spirit are for the common good of the church ! 8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;… 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills..... Jesus, God gives the gifts. TONGUES IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST BECAUSE A SHIFT OF FOCUS OF SELF IS BEING EMPHASIZED TO A FOCUS OF GOD - TO BRING GOD ON TOP. it is very easy to get lost in oneself and pride.... and begin to chatter non sensible things... 1 Corinthians 12: 12 For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. Baptized into one body! 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.… 14 For the body is not one member, but many.… The foot cant say to the hand, because i am not a hand, I m not part of the body... 1 Corinthians 12:18 But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. - God decides. 12;21 ~ And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you; or again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.… Some with the gifts of tongues speaking cant say i dont need you.. Baptism of the Spirit, brings us into the body, to use the gifts , and if we dont have all the gifts we are still part of one body. for if a man were to need an extra hand or 2 or 3 , would he not appear queer? how about eyes in the back of his head? God has placed every part according to its purpose and functions in its best variability. 1 Corinthians 12: 28 And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. 29 All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they?… 12:27 Now you are Christs body, and individually members of it. we are all baptized into the body of Christ. People say if we dont receive the gift of tongues we havent been baptized by the Holy Spirit - WRONG! we are not saved by the gift of tongues but the GRACE OF JESUS! 1 Corinthians 12 &13 ~ teaches 1 Corinthians 13 ~ LOVE chapter ~ Love one another. 1 Corinthians 14 ~ Applies it........ 14:1 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may PROPHESY. 14: 2 For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.… 14 : 3 But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation. 4 One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who PROPHESIES edifies the ________________________________________________________________ church.… _______ IT IS EASY TO MUMBLE ...... THAT PEOPLE MAY SEE SPEAKING TONGUES OF BRAMBLE- IN SELF PRIDE...EDIFYING ONESELF ....BUT! IT IS OF GOD TO PROPHECY OF THE WORD AND THE GOSPEL TRUTH LIFTING UP FATHER IN HEAVEN! IF NO ONE UNDERSTANDS WHAT IS BEING SAID BUT GOD IT IS BUILDING UP THE INDIVIDUAL NOT THE CHURCH *******PROPHECY BUILD UP THE CHURCH SO THEY UNDERSTAND! ***** THE PURPOSE OF THE GIFTS IS TO BUILD UP THE CHURCH. Paul says its great to be in such high spirits of the Lord ......but i would rather you prophecy! Paul was coming to a Church which taught you needed to speak tongues to be part of the body. He who prophecy is greater than he who speaks tongues.. sell your houses and buy buses to go all over and preach is great ! but make sure that what is being given is clearly understood and builds up the body of Christ. Speaking into the air~ emphasizing on understanding of the meaning of the language... Pray in the Spirit but WITH YOUR MIND! and GEARED ON CHRIST. it is better to be holly rollers and happy clappies instead of frozen mozens Just do it in the Lord and not on oneself. Adventicostal ~ why not? Believing in the 2nd coming of Jesus but also the reception of the Holy Spirit and rejoicing in the Lord! 12:18 & 19 ~ Paul wants everyone to understand the message to build up the church not the individual for if a person stands there blabbering utter nonsense and those looking on shout amen we receive it! what did they receive when it is not of the LORD...if a person or church believes that speaking tongues is a must to be born of the Spirit! Baptism of the Holy Spirit ~ tongues is a sign for unbelievers and as such satan and his minions can lead many away by their own pride. ALL MUST BE DONE IN CLEAR UNDERSTANDING TO STRENGHTEN THE CHURCH ~ For if what is given is not clearly given how can the body receive it and benefit? 1 Cor 12:27 ~ Now you are Christs body, and individually members of it. *************** God is a God of Order, of Peace and Truth ~ Most Holy and Righteous If there is a gift of tongues 2 at most 3 are to speak , IF THERE IS NO INTERPRETER BE QUIET. Paul is controlling the manifestation of the spirit ~ but not the Holy Spirit ~ he did not call them demon possessed, THEY WERE SAINTS ~ BUT CONFUSED SAINTS. A believer manifesting the gifts should know if - Is God telling me to do that? Or am i doing it on my own? If the purpose of Baptism of the Spirit is to build up the church in the TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL AND GODS WORD, building up THE KINGDOM FO RIGHTEOUSNESS! Then those with the gift should be sharing it! * Did you know ....The adventist church is preaching in more countries than any other protestant churches combined claiming to have the baptism of the Spirit.. because it is to edify the souls and build up the body of Christ ~ not ones name ...not oneself ... and we are given the great commission - GO AND PREACH THE GOSPEL TO ALL THE EARTH! Let me ask ~ how many are you sharing Jesus to and the truth of His word? The Day of THE LORD is coming SOON and the task is at hand for the fields are ripe for harvest and it is time to ripen and make ready the ripe grain , to be plucked and separated from the tares, building up the kingdom of God , bringing more souls to receiving Salvation., Revelation 22:20 He who testifies to these things says, Yes, I am coming soon. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
