Sabbath done away with standard excuses – right out of the - TopicsExpress

Sabbath done away with standard excuses – right out of the Evangelical Play Book. Let’s look at them. But, before we do, note – all the excuses in the world don’t paint over the fact that Christians are ignoring the Sabbath in favor of their own traditions… there is not one scripture that says Sunday is God’s new day. Not one. But, if you find one I will give you $1,000. 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 says to set money aside the first day of the week so Paul can pick them up without collecting from people when he came through town. It says absolutely nothing about keeping the first day. You are making a pure assumption. Acts 20:7 is actually Saturday night – the evening hours after the Sabbath ended at sundown. All the lights were on (because it was evening); Paul spoke past midnight, and early Sunday morning He walked to Troas. No Sunday worship service. Again, pure assumption. You make some very bad assumptions about Mark 2:27-28 and Luke 6:5 when Christ says He is “Lord of the Sabbath.” He is saying He is the creator God. He is the Lord of the Sabbath, making Sabbath the Lord’s day. If He meant that He would change Sabbath then He lied in Matthew 5:18, when He said, “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.” Again, pure assumption. Acts 2:46 says they met every day – eating together – as we do today. This in no way says Sabbath was changed. Again, pure assumption. Romans 14:5-6 is speaking to Passovers, first fruits, and other Jewish holidays. It is also speaking about food laws they kept. Not the seventh-day Sabbath of the Ten Commandments. It’s the same with Colossians 2:16-17 and Galatians 4:8-10. Find “eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration” in the Ten Commandments. You can’t. The “Sabbaths” mentioned are ceremonial Sabbaths, like Passover. Again, pure assumption. Tell me you have something more than these poorly understood assumptions to base your lawlessness upon. Pease, tell me you have more than that. If not, when Christ returns you will hear Him say, “Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness.” (Matthew 7:23) After all, if we keep our traditions over God’s commandments we worship Him in vain. (Mark 7:6-13) Please – show me the plain scripture where Jesus says, with no assumption on your part, that the Sabbath has been changed. I won’t wait – because it does not exist.
