Saboteurs or Whistleblowers? In our efforts to save Veterans Memorial Park from being developed further we have been called many things. One attempt is to call us saboteurs. The City and the supporters of the Band Stand themselves have been doing a fine job at sabotaging their own project. We have only advocated for the place we love by simply pointing out the problems with the chosen site. The top down approach and lack of engagement of the community by the Band Shell Task Force and City Council has not yielded enough enthusiasm to find donors or support amongst citizens. Two Council members voted with their constituents interests in mind, against the Band Stand. Does this also make them saboteurs? The evidence (soil boring tests, flood maps) shows what we have been saying, and what was known all along that the site for the proposed Band Stand is not practical to build on. In their zeal to accomplish what are only the interests of a few well connected people to the City Council, it appears they blinded themselves from reality. .
