Sabs from the Cumbria and Lancaster groups attended the Ennerdale meet of the Melbreak yesterday. Locating road support just off Mireside around 10am, it wasnt long before hounds were spotted making their way down off Herdus before spilling into the fields below. Wasting no time sabs sprayed the area with citronella as hounds passed by heading towards Ennerdale Water. Contact was with the majority of the pack was lost for a short while after this, however hounds were spotted from time to time scattered about the fields around How Hall farm. As the sabs circled the area for signs of the pack the huntsman, up on Banna Fell, began calling the hounds back to him and staff employed the whip to encourage them on their way. This continued until well after midday as the hounds were reluctant, or too scared, to return! When, eventually, Liddle moved off again it was in the direction of Whiteoak Moss and Gale Fell! One sab went in on foot heading up as far as Hen Combe, but apart from the occasional distant horn call all was quiet so they rejoined thier colleagues on the road monitoring support! Not a lot happened for the rest of the day, the support were agitated after seeing nothing since the morning and Liddle remained quietly hidden up on the high ground until dropping down from Great Bourne to pack up just after 3pm. The sabs stuck around until darkness fell, despite support attempting to intimidate, only leaving the area when satsfied the hunt was over.
