Sacramento Bee, Joe Davidson, writes an article about the Jesuit vs. Pleasant Grove game, worth reading. Its been a long time since Mr. Davidsons had much nice to say about Jesuit football, but it looks like our boys are earning back his respect. (NOTE - I also added several great shots they took of Saturdays game) High school football: Pleasant Grove wins, but loses top tailback in first half By Joe Davidson jdavidson@sacbee Published: Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013 - 12:00 am | Page 3C Last Modified: Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013 - 5:27 pm Bailey made a circus catch of a Jason Elenberger pass for an 80-yard touchdown to tie the score 14-14 in the second quarter. Matt Coyles 21-yard field goal gave Jesuit (6-2, 1-2) a 17-14 halftime lead. Elenberger, who threw deep, short and on the run, passed for 326 yards, the most against Pleasant Grove (8-0, 3-0) this season. A week after losing 56-14 at top-ranked Folsom, the Marauders showed tremendous resolve against another section powerhouse in the Eagles. Bailey caught an 11-yard option pass for a touchdown from receiver Alec Moen to pull Jesuit within 28-23 with 3:54 to play. The Marauders then stopped the Eagles on downs but subsequently ran out of downs and time. Pleasant Grove took over at the Jesuit 26 with 54 seconds left and ran out the clock. Pleasant Grove overcame a physical Jesuit team and eight holding penalties, completely out of character for the Eagles, long known for their superb interior line play. The Eagles will hold onto their DRL title hopes. Players and coaches were pleased for Lewis but also concerned about possibly not having him the final two weeks of the regular season as his hamstring heals. Well ice him up, Pleasant Grove coach Joe Cattolico said. Sometimes, the fast guys pull muscles. I dont know what thats like. I was never fast. But Lewis is very good. Both our tailbacks ran well. Ben Parietti scored Jesuits first touchdown, from 3 yards out. That capped a 22-play, 10-minute drive with equal parts run and pass. Jesuit ran 85 plays and Pleasant Grove 45, including Lewis one-play, 12-second drive on his 80-yard burst. Austin Gates had four catches for 97 yards. Pleasant Grove next plays at No. 5 Oak Ridge (7-1, 2-1) on Friday, and then closes the regular season with a Week 10 showdown against Folsom (8-0, 3-0). Jesuit needs at least one more league victory to become playoff-eligible. Under second-year coach Marlon Blanton, the Marauders sport their best team since they were 10-1 in 2004 under coach Dan Carmazzi. Jesuit closes the regular season against Sheldon and Oak Ridge.
