Sacred use of Social Media - Learn from Indian Army !! Indian Army known for its commitment and valor is also known for the usage of cutting edge technology. In the wake of Jammu Kashmir flood situation, Army has shown a new phenomenon...Sacred use of Social Media. However Social Media has been used earlier as well, but this time it was way too organized and highly effective. Jammu Kashmirs flood is a grave situation, where cities and villages are submerged with flood water. There is no electricity and Telecommunication Network. There are no Roads and Trains to travel. So Army needed a medium to communicate with people and to gather the information about the People stranded there. There were Thousands of Tourists who were stuck in Hotels and as usual no State government ever maintain any information about the Tourists, so that they can be contacted during such natural calamities. Lets see how Army used Social Media and Technology to overcome this bottleneck and emerged as a winner, yet again. ##### Lets break it up in 3 Phases ##### Phase - 1 Information Gathering >> Indian Army already has a good presence over Social Media. Facebook Page: ADGPI - Indian Army , Twitter Handle : @adgpi Indian Armys Telecommunication and Signal Corps are getting thousands of distress calls on its Facebook and Twitter pages.They are also receiving messages and emails.They are also searching the information on basis of keywords and hash tags to collate them. People who somehow got the Network are placing their requests on Armys pages. Also Relatives and Friends of Tourists are also providing inputs to Indian Army Social Media handles. Phase - 2 Information validation and processing Army has setup The WhatsApp groups that include Senior Commanders of the Srinagar based 15 Corps and Nagrota-based 16 Corps along with the Units working in field areas. Armys sends the inputs gathered from Social Media to these Whatsapp groups.I would like to remind you that the Top seeded Commanders are overseeing these Whatsapp group, that assures a prompt action. Substantial information is forwarded to Army Teams in Field via Satellite Phones and Wireless (Armys Signal Corps is responsible for these communication) Phase - 3 Action on Ground Loaded with the information via Telecomms, Army is doing the operations on ground. They are rescuing and providing food and shelter to the people. * Till this moment Indian Army has responded to more than 15,000 Distress calls. * Apart from that its Indian Army which is updating the Google Person Finder application with the information about the People they have rescued.So that their relatives and friends can know the know how of their loved ones.
