Sacrifice. I dont think I fully understood the depths of that - TopicsExpress

Sacrifice. I dont think I fully understood the depths of that word until living through the process of making Fragile Waters. Personal time, health, money, materials, emotions, friends....family have all been put on a chopping block during the time its taken to create this film. At least the past year - if not the full two years from planning to inception - we were tested to the center of our beings, Shari and I. We know now, in earnest, what were made of. Thats for sure. And, its safe to say that I am amazed at what weve accomplished. As of tonight, there is a film, a documentary about orcas, salmon and the environment, called Fragile Waters. We finished editing, toning and cutting all of the scenes for the movie. The artistry and beauty of our film is so striking, so poignant, I cannot believe that it was crafted by our tiny crew and a budget less than the sales price of an economy SUV. It was amazing, though, to see it all fall into place. I was touched by how well Shari and I worked together - in concert with one another - as if we were dancing a tango but challenging each other with every step. For my friends, family, supporters and colleagues who felt neglected or worse by the time devoted to the film, I have no apologies to offer you. Not a one. For, if you love me, support me or care about the film in any way, you must understand that this devotion of time - these sacrifices - are all for something much larger than me, much larger than Shari, much larger than you or any organization. I say that, too, with love and respect. Earnestly. And, if for some reason you dont fully understand it now... you will. Very soon. In this project, we have always set out to save the Southern Resident orcas and chinook salmon by bringing the facts of their imperilment and focus a spotlight on those working to save them to nothing short of millions of people. Fragile Waters will tell you how we can save them. I want as many folks to see the film as possible, and by doing so, for them to feel inspired to take action. So, today we finished trimming the story down, tightening it, making sure the story was whole and strong...today, we laid the groundwork for our sacrifices to have meaning. Were not done yet. But, we have the story...we have the film, and it is more beautiful than I think either of us could have imagined.
