Sad misjudgement by Stone. If Stone thinks of himself as left-wing, his recent statements are even more bizarre. Arguably, Yanukovychs, Putins and similar regimes are peculiarly post-Soviet right-wing orders build on greed, hierarchy, nepotism, disrespect, brain-washing, corruption, and cynicism - far more so than any modern Western society. To be sure, in the West (as in other civilizations) all of these vices are present too. Yet, in the West, they are checked by democracy, civil society, free media, and the rule of law - phenomena absent or suppressed in the Putin System and its clones. Somebody as critical of his own countrys government as Stone would have problems to freely work and prosper in such a system.
