Sad news about Bob Kemper, a fine journalist who never lost his sense of humor about the universe: Subject: Bob Kemper, RIP As many of you know, Bob Kemper passed away on Saturday of an apparent heart attack. Bob, 53, was an esteemed colleague and a good friend of the Washington Examiner family. He joined the Examiner newspaper as an assistant managing editor in Sept. 2010 and stayed on when we converted to our current format last June. His reporters and desk mates will remember his deft line editing, his deep understanding of political Washington and his lively -- and occasionally wicked -- sense of humor. For two years before coming to the Examiner, Bob was a freelance writer and editor, mainly for U.S. News and World Report and National Journal. He wrote three fine cover stories for our Sunday edition on Joe Biden, Brian Lamb and David Ignatius. Before that he spent four years as a Washington correspondent for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and three years at the Chicago Tribune, as a White House correspondent and as a national correspondent in Chicago writing about city, state and national campaigns. He first made his name at The Daily Press in Richmond, where he wrote about state politics before moving to Washington to cover the Pentagon and Congress. He was also the author of the 2011 book Rubble, about how 9/11 families rebuilt their lives. Please join me in offering condolences to Bobs three children and his extended family.
