Sad news this morning. The guy that got me into racing when I was a kid passed away Monday. Ron Glazier was a good guy. I havent seen him for several years, yet I think about him and when I do, I usually have a smile on my face. He helped me get my first motorcycle mechanic job, in 1973 with Yamaha. I bought my first race bike from him, and he taught me riding techniques very few knew of. Most people back then used the berms and ran through a curve. Ron found the apex, and pointed his nose at it, full throttle, then all brakes, pivot, then full throttle to the next curve. He won a silver cup (2nd place) in the Georgia Motocross standings in 1973. Quite an accomplishment for the entire state of Georgia. I used to spend all week before a race tweaking, polishing, drilling, and testing, to get that edge over my competition. He used to tell me, all you gotta do is keep the throttle on longer than the other guy. No need to spend all that money. His bikes were always stock. We took a road trip in 1974 to the Houston Astrodome to watch my hero King Kenny Roberts run flat track and TT in the Grand National points race. You had to run flat track and TT, along with roadracing to be crowned king. I still run bean oil to this day because of the memories that smell brings up. The family accepted visitors today from 5-7 at Mowell in Peachtree City, and I saw some faces that had aged about 40 years... I guess that was to be expected. Race on brother, and Ill strap my full bores up tight so we can run one more when I get there. RIP, James Ronald Glazier 1947 - 2014.
