I seem to remember hearing he was Nerudas favourite translator. His translation of Nerudas book Extravagaria is one of my favourite books. I met him briefly at the Aldeburgh Poetry Festival in 2006, and he gave a brilliant talk on Neruda capturing the great Chilean poets charisma- though he had some of that for himself.
