Sad update on Kayak: FROM FITZPATRICK REFERRALS It is with profound sadness that we have allowed our lovely friend “Kayak” to pass away peacefully today. All of the nurses and clinicians involved are deeply sad as they had grown to know and love her in these past few days. We had all done our very best to support her both emotionally and physically over these difficult days, but unfortunately her ordeal had resulted in irreparable damage to her internal organs. We applaud the kindness of Many Tears Animal Rescue who cared so deeply, and also the wonderfully kind people who rescued her before she came to us. The entire team at Fitzpatrick Referrals have been focussed on Kayak’s intensive care these past few days and the outpouring of encouragement and support via social media has been of great inspiration to the care team looking after Kayak. It is heart-warming to see the great number of people who care incredibly deeply for our animal friends. It is this love for our animal friends that drives us each and every day to do what we do and it is in our opinion the greatest and most powerful force in the world. Unfortunately sometimes biology does not smile on us and try as we might to preserve life, we have to sometimes let an animal pass peacefully away, as we did just now for Kayak. Each and every decision for the animals we care about must be morally the right thing for that particular animal in those particular circumstances, and though we will always do absolutely everything we can to help and support health and life, on this occasion, it was right to let Kayak pass-away with peace and dignity. We know absolutely that you feel as we do that animals have as much right to Planet Earth as we have, that companion animals bring joy, hope and unconditional love to us each and every day, and that it continues to be our moral responsibility to look after them and to love them back to the very best of our ability. In sympathy Team Rachel Fitzpatrick
