Sadaf Munshi had posted the opening verse of the satirical poem: Akha hore Akha Yore Mey kiah aur sanun chhum. Brought back some great memories of early seventies in Kashmir especially what was then the new medium of TV. I had heard this poem on Door Darshan Srinagar probably on “the great program” Butrat. Kashmiri literature has a rich tradition of satirical poetry. The genre of Ladi Shah is a perfect example. I find this satire particularly apt because it was written during the period when the masters in New Delhi asked Mir Qasim to move over and make way for Sheikh Abdullah. Kawan labay tsutah shoonth Aur aye ghanth te mornas jountth Mey kor zonah mey kor gore Meh kiah aur sanun chhum. (The crow was ecstatic because it had found a big piece of bread, When a hawk swooped and snatched it. I paused for a moment to ponder; The heck! Why should I care?) It doesn’t get any better than this!
