Saddened to learn of the passing of two great Mt. Vernonites in todays Mt. Vernon Voice - Clarence Martin & Mike Serlin. Clarence Martin was a Louisiana native who lived in Belle Haven. He once told me about his first Democratic Party activity in VA was tea on china at Patsy Ticers house in the 1960s - he thought this was strange because in Louisiana you normally brought a sidearm to Democratic Party gatherings. Hed never seen tea on china. Mike Serlin lived on Mason Hill and was a reliable volunteer and community activist in our area. Clarence and Mike were charter members of Mount Vernon At Home - a pioneering group started in our area to facilitate aging in place. Mike served as Treasurer and headed up communications. Mt. Vernon wont be the same without them.
