Sadly, Dwayne Highly Falkner was killed while cycling along Pecos Road in Phoenix (Ahwatukee) on Nov 12, 2014. Our condolences to Highlys family and friends. Police investigation is ongoing but preliminary results are that the collision occurred within a mixing zone where through-going bicyclists cross over from the shoulder to a buffer area; and motorists in the right lane must either merge left (if going straight), or right (if turning right) to the right-turn only lane. Engineering attention has turned to this somewhat unusual striping configuration; Councilman Sal Diccicio orchestrated a community meeting between those concerned and the citys streets dept, which was held this past Thursday.
