Sadly I never met 760. I spent the last 4 years missing 399 and 610 a few minutes here, a few minutes there. This year I had pretty much given up ever seeing her and since we had seen almost 25 grizzlies in 11 days I figured Id been blessed enough. Our last hour before leaving the Tetons for home I pulled out of the turn out to see 399 and her cubs walking right into a group of people who had no idea she was there. We backed up to warn them and spent the next hour enjoying every moment with them. I witnessed some pretty not so bright people behavior that evening. The lack of respect and common sense these bears are given from a species that are suppose to be more intelligent amazes me. Watching her completely disregard the people who got to close, made quick movements and slid gravel into her and the cubs gave me a new respect and appreciation for her and other bears. It breaks my heart that 760 grew up in the public eye, learned to not fear humans and how to live with us and then it was humans who took his life. Ive witnessed several incidents this year with different states wildlife managers literally getting away with murder and its becoming more and more frustrating. All of us (photographers, hunters, etc) must answer to them and yet we are not given the same curtesy. Unless something is done soon with the agencies that manage our wildlife I fear the worst.
