Sadly the second meeting attended today was not a positive one for Chippenham where a vote was taken in favour (5-6) of the Showells Farm development, despite a recommendation from the Highways department to refuse the application and is also prematurely ahead of the Inspectors report which is not due until the autumn. Strangely, the Northern developments have been told their decision will have to wait until after the inspectors report is out which seems totally unfair, inconsistent and makes a mockery of the EiP process. Suspicions are that they have done this because there is a strong possibility that the inspector will not approve of this application since it serves the county (i.e. will pay for the improvements to the A350) but does nothing to improve the infrastructure for Chippenham. The traffic problems highlighted in the Chippenham Transport report already conflict with the planning decisions being made by Wiltshire Council Planners and there is only one Councillor on the planning committee from Chippenham, which says a lot! We need people who will stand up for Chippenham and make decisions based on what is best for Chippenham first and WILTSHIRE second for a change. We need to stop our Town being bled to death for the benefit of others who don’t even live in the town or offer nothing in return to the town for the development. How will this decision impact you?
