Sadly, today The Remains are no more than a footnote in rock history, but the reality is that they were America’s Greatest Lost Band and Boston’s proudest export. The Remains’ hard-edged sound was equal parts punchy, tight, notably well-produced and arranged. There was no other band in 1965 like them, and the lone LP constitutes one gigantic house party. (Also one of my favorite mid-century album covers of all!) In the end, they will always be remembered for being one of the opening acts on The Beatles final US tour in 1966.
