Sadly we have heard of the passing of Simon Douglas-Dufresne in South America from injuries suffered in a plane crash. He was a one of the characters of my time at Pembroke House. We sat next to each other in the locker room. I was number 28 and he was 27! He was a fiesty character who always fought above his weight in all aspects of school life. After Pembroke he went to Worth Abbey in England. He lived life to the fullest and was always involved in some action of sort. I do recall one story where Simon had ridden overland from England to Kenya. He had crossed the Sahara and the Central African jungles with no real problems. He was within sight of home in Lake Baringo, where he decided to cross a swollen river and he lost his bike as he tried to get home that little bit quicker!! After quite a few adventures Simon founded the highly successful fencing company called Sanyati Limited. He fenced such conservation projects as Lewa, amongst many others. He sold this company a few years ago and moved to Mexico to live. His eldest daughter Cassia Peia was at Pembroke House before they moved to Mexico. Our thoughts go to his family. Rest in Peace Simon you were certainly one of a kind.
