Safety Engineer/ Hygienist Job Description: Safety Engineer/OHSAS Coordinator based upon the needs of the Cleveland plant to keep up with the Global safety program demands and help improve safety performance in Cleveland. Lead the development of safety & health programs. Ensure compliance to OSHA regulations and ArcelorMittal policies/programs. Participate in safety related investigations. Communicate safety information. Maintain safety and health records (including OSHA recordkeeping). Work with Radiation Safety Officer. Ensure compliance with hearing conservation and respiratory protection. Must be able to walk/climb throughout all mill areas. Able to work at heights. Assist in development of emergency response plans. Help resolve safety issues and complaints. Workers Comp. liaison. Update/revise safety training data, safety & health manual and safety reference information. Assist in development, implementation and maintenance of the Health & Safety Management System (OHSAS 18001) at an ArcelorMittal division level. Following the certification process, this person will continue to manage the Health and Safety Management System as a division representative and be an active leader in the daily division safety activities. This may include coordinating and tracking Fatality Prevention Audits, Global Closed Loop assessments and corrective actions, health and safety KPIs, and other routine and special data requests and analysis. Conduct audits of employee and contractor work sites against ArcelorMittal USA and Global standards, regulatory standards (OSHA/MSHA/FRA), and for recognition of hazards. Perform the above with minimal direction and through joint union management efforts. Maintain excellent working relationships with safety chair and safety advocates. Qualifications: • Possess excellent written and verbal skills. • BA/BS Safety Engineering, Safety Management or 4-year degree in an engineering or engineering technology field • Bachelors degree or 2 year technical degree with 2-4 years Safety and Health experience and understanding of safety management and health data sampling protocols from experience or educational background in safety management and health data sampling protocols. • Must have advanced knowledge of safety and health regulations and standards. Preferred Requirements: • 2 - 4 years EH&S or Quality Management Systems experience (ISO9000, ISO14001, OHSAS 18001, etc) or Operations/Maintenance Management in heavy manufacturing environment. • Proficient in MS Office products; have documented experience working self-directed, willing to prioritize work and handle multiple projects.
