Safety on the Road – Focus on Visible Helmets In 2008 we start - TopicsExpress

Safety on the Road – Focus on Visible Helmets In 2008 we start the campaign about Lights when Riding. We launched the No Lights – No Ride policy in our Group and through example we can safely say that compliance and understanding of Lighting and Safety is being adopted by more and more cyclists as momentum takes a life of its own. In 2010 we commenced another campaign about Visible Cycling Clothing and took a stance against dark coloured clothing. As usual we had our early detractors but we persisted and if you care to look around the cycling community in 2013 it is pleasing to see many of the major cycling rides, shops and groups adopting more visible colours for their jerseys. In 2013 we now campaign for Cyclists to be more Visible with the choice of Helmet colours. Let’s face it – the most visible feature in a distance is your noggin and if you are wearing a Bright coloured helmet – chances are you might be seen much more easily. Try it out yourself and at your next ride see if fellow cyclists with bright coloured helmets appear more visible or noticeable quicker than those with the Black or Dark Blue or Dark Red coloured helmets. The next time you then change your helmet – which should be between 2 to 3 years – go for a bright coloured one or better still improve your odds at survival by getting one now and make sure it is an Australian Standards helmet and not one from an on-line store.
