Said it before and its something I dont to tell anyone who has been here but Edinburgh does drama like nowhere else I know. This, is the News Steps, a simple enough set of stairs linking St Giles Street with Market Street via 124 twisting and turning old steps. However, its those very twists and turns, augmented by fabulous old stones and period lanterns that give this place the aforementioned dramatic feel. Its all over the Old Town if I am honest but I do like this particular wee short cut because its different. You ascend via a longish walkway (first shot, view from foot) toward the first set of steps, followed by another two sets, all turning and twisting until you reach the final set where you ascend to reach St Giles Street...then turn around and look down for fine views across Waverley and the Balmoral. Its a directors dream for sure...cant find a lot of history for this place and I have little in my own head so Ill keep looking but meantime, Ill let you all use your imaginations and consider who or what may have been up and down here over the years........
