Saigal was an artist who seemed ancient to us, as we grew up.. of course, 30-40 years was like a whole different generation, and as he was gone by the time we came to the world our interest in him was minimal. As we began to grow, and our appreciation grew for the niceties of music, we were gradually brought closer to the realization that there was a solid reason why Saigal was adulated in his time.. And is revered today. We should thank Radio Ceylon who gave us adequate vaccinations of Saigal at regular, timely intervals. So much so that as Saigals voice grew upon us, we did not notice how the change happened in our preference for his voice. Now, I realize that Saigals voice had the most natural flow, where he could swim the depths and climb the heights.
