Saint Lucia in gold medal form for 24th OECS Swimming Championships It is that time again - when the most anticipated Swimming Championships of the year comes to Saint Lucia on November 7th – 9th, 2014. The 24th OECS Swimming Championships will be held at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre for Pool Competition and at the Pigeon Island beach for the Open Water Swim segment. For the first time an Open Water Swim has been added to the OECS programme, and will feature a 5km swim for athletes aged 14 years and over. The Saint Lucia National Swim Team was selected following the recently concluded Caprisun Short Course National Championships. Swimmers competed in that event with an added edge, knowing that their performance would dictate whether they were selected to the National Team. To ensure that the excitement and momentum continues to build, the Saint Lucia National Team had their first team training on Sunday 19th October, 2014 under the guidance of Head Coach, Brian Charles, Assistant Coach Dr. Diane Simkins-Worrel, Assistant Coach Roosevelt Romain, and Team Manager, Brender Portland-Reynolds. Also in the 18 & Over Males, SLASA is very pleased to announce the return of National swimmers, Jonathan Calderon and Michael Louis-Fernand. With a strong and well-balanced team, coaches and officials are confident that the trophy will remain on Saint Lucian soil for the 24th edition of the OECS Swimming Championships. In the history of this hotly contested event, Saint Lucia has won the competition a total of 12 times and Grenada 11 times. All the action starts on Friday November 7th at 7:30 a.m. with Open Water Swimming at the Pigeon Island beach, then continues the longer distance pool events from 5:30 p.m. The official opening ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by exciting relays, all at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Center.
